LifeCare Hospitals of South Texas has two locations serving the Rio Grande Valley. We have offered specialty acute hospital services to families across the Rio Grande Valley since March 1998. Our South McAllen hospital opened in March of 2005 and has a 62-bed capacity in a modern, free-standing facility. Our newest McAllen North facility, which is located on Jackson Road, opened December 2006 and has a 32-bed capacity with full telemetry capabilities. Our hospitals serve local Valley residents as well as winter Texans who reside in the Valley during the months of September through April.

Our hospitals specialize in meeting the needs of the medically-complex patients. Patients are referred to LifeCare Hospitals of South Texas for continuous monitoring of their complex acute medical conditions and aggressive therapy. Our transdisciplinary team which consists of physicians, ACLS-certified nursing staff, respiratory therapists, physical/occupational/speech therapists, wound care specialist, dietitians, case managers and social workers, provide comprehensive individualized patient care. Team members are committed to provide quality patient care and to instill hope and confidence in each of our patients. Admissions
LifeCare Hospitals of South Texas is a referral-based facility. Our hospital welcomes referrals from a variety of local health care providers and sources, including acute care hospital units (ICU/MICU/NICU, Med-Surgical Nursing Units), family physicians for home evaluations, specialists, case managers, social workers, home health agencies, assisted living centers and/or nursing homes. The patient or family member can also make a direct request to any of the aforementioned providers.

The process is easy. Simply have a physician write an order for "LifeCare Evaluation" for transfer or admission. Upon confirming the physician's order and consent for clinical evaluation, an experienced Clinical Nurse Liaison will meet with the patient and family, to educate them about the LifeCare program and to complete a comprehensive medical evaluation. We highly encourage the family to ask questions and to schedule a time for a tour of the facility. Upon acceptance, the intake coordinator will coordinate with the family, referring facility and the insurance company to facilitate a smooth transition to our hospital.
