LifeCare Hospitals of Pittsburgh operates on two different campuses with a combined capacity of 196 beds and a medical staff of more than 200 physicians. We are accredited by The Joint Commission and are Medicare certified.

Our hospital specializes in the treatment of medically complex patients who require extended hospitalization. We are passionate about giving our patients the best chance at recovery from acute injury or illness by providing early and aggressive intervention in a critical care setting. Our treatment team includes physicians, nurses, pharmacists, nutritionists and therapists across a range of disciplines — physical, speech, occupational, respiratory, recreational and psychological therapy — to speed physical, emotional and spiritual recovery. We embrace each of our patients as individuals with a personal history and a unique health situation and we provide the compassion, support, and nurturing necessary to achieve optimal recovery.

In addition to treating medically complex patients, we also are able to serve patients who may benefit from an intensive behavioral health program.

LifeCare Hospitals of Pittsburgh entered the Pittsburgh market in August of 1999 in the former Forbes Metropolitan Hospital building. Our 155 beds include 23 high observation beds, 60 telemetry-capable beds, 22 beds appropriate for the treatment of complex medical/surgical patients, and 49 behavioral health beds. All of our rooms are private. We also offer free on-site parking, television, and local telephone.

LifeCare Hospitals of Pittsburgh North opened in October 2006 on the Allegheny General Hospital Suburban Campus in Bellevue. The 41-bed facility features state-of-the-art technology including 12 high observations beds that allow for in-room cardiac monitoring and 16 telemetry-capable beds. All rooms accommodate high-intensity services such as dialysis and mechanical ventilation. Two separate rehabilitation areas are dedicated to physical, occupational and speech therapy, and house physicians are on-site 24 hours per day.

Admissions
At LifeCare Hospitals of Pittsburgh, we pride ourselves on our customer-focused admissions team. Patients can be referred to LifeCare Hospitals of Pittsburgh from a variety of sources, including family physicians, specialists, case managers, social workers, home health agencies, nursing homes or personal care homes. The patient or family member can also make a direct request for a consultation to any of our professionals.

The process is easy. Simply ask the physician to write an order to "Consult LifeCare Hospitals of Pittsburgh" for transfer or admission. The individual receiving the order need only call us to arrange for a Clinical Liaison to evaluate you or your loved one. Our carefully trained Liaison will evaluate the patient. If clinically appropriate, it should take no more than 24 hours to have the patient admitted to one of our campuses. We accept Medicare and most private insurance, and will coordinate with your insurance company to ensure a seamless admission process. Our Liaison will be happy to answer any questions you may have about our program, and you are invited to tour our hospital. If we are unable to accept you or your loved one, we will be happy to recommend other options.
